Demond Gray, 43, of New Brunswick was arrested and charged on Sunday with first-degree murder, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Joseph Battaglia of the North Brunswick Township Police Department.
On Saturday, officers from the North Brunswick Police Department responded to the Farrington Inn after an emergency call about an unresponsive man.
Police found Abdul Conteh, 60, of Somerset who showed signs of physical injury, Ciccone and Battaglia said. Conteh was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.
An investigation by Detective Keri Shutz of the North Brunswick Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office found that Gray assaulted and killed Conteh in the hotel room. The cause of death remains undetermined pending the completion of an autopsy by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, they said.
Gray was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Shutz at 732-247-0922 ext. 330 or Detective Morris at 732-745-4194.
